Does anyone know what is happening in reguards to the proposed new Qld legislation? All I am hearing is bits and pieces. Could sporting shooters australia be an ally? Should I still order a P90 or will it just end up confiscated?

Info comes out on August 3rd I believe. I do not know if the proposed changes are for or against the laser skimish industry. |

What we need operators to do at this stage is contact their local member of parliament (Queensland state) lobbying for commercial grade laser skirmish equipment to be explicity excluded from the new act as part of the list of exemptions in the regulations.
We also need to make the point to the local member that it makes very little sense to harmonise with NSW since by using the term imitiation rather than replice firearm, they have cause the police and the industry tremendous challenges relating to lack of clarity. An imitation has effectively been defined in NSW as something that looks vaguely like a gun other than those sold by a toy shop. Since real guns come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, making it restricted to have something that vaguely looks like something else, has proven to be a recipe for disaster. We should therefore lobby that in fact NSW should he harmonising to QLD law which talks only about replica machine guns rather than harmonising QLD law to the unworkable NSW rules.
We have already sent to all Queensland operators an example letter to use.
I also encourage everyone interest in our industry from a commercial and hobby perspective in Queensland to write to
Inspector Michael Crowley Manager Weapons Licensing Branch, Queensland Police Service GPO Box 892 Brisbane, Queensland 4001 Australia
We have to make it clear that our industry is main stream and that people from all walks of life enjoy this activity. Inspector Crowley is the main driver in Queensland behind the harmonising effort and is QLD representative on the inter-state council that has agreed in principle that all states must harmonise with NSW.
You should all be aware that in NSW the only model we do that is not considered an imitation is the Scorpion model. Even the Commando without any sort of barrel and which is very science fiction like is an imitation, requiring a permit and the permit among other things limits play to people 18 and over!

Hi guys, I'm just hoping that the UK doesn't start adopting this stupid law. We've had more than our share of lunatics with guns lately over here and whatever the rest of the world do, the UK usually follows. It would be a disaster for everyone if this law is passed, so good luck and get lobbying!

this out today...
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/breaking-news/toy-guns-will-have-to-be-licensed-in-queensland-under-new-firearms-laws/story-e6frf7jx-1225900889228
Now I'm totally confused. From the QLD Police website... "Q - Is a Weapons Act licence required to possess/use laser pointers?
A - No licence is required, however to lawfully import laser pointers, Australian Customs will require an importation of weapons police confirmation (B709A, B or D – import permit). You must supply full details of the item including milliwatt when making application for an importation of weapons police confirmation - B709A, B or D – import permit along with a genuine reason for possession of the laser pointer." ...and yet laser pointers are an actual (low power) laser that has been responsible for issues with aircraft in this country. |
